Ohio State 4 Miler Race Recap

FINALLY got around to recapping a race. I mean, it’s only four miles–it shouldn’t take that long, right?

In case you missed Kelly’s very funny post about it, you can read it here.

I will start by saying that if you’re a Buckeye fan (me, by marriage), then this is the race for you.

So to keep a short race story short….This is a really casual-for-most-people (not me!) race with all types of runners/walkers/stroller pushers/backpack wearers/prior to the race chicken wing eaters (yes, for real). But it really was an awesome race, despite the fair amount of weaving I had to do in the beginning around people who clearly were not running mile splits in the 7s. Or 8s for that matter. And this was the ONE DAY in the last few weeks where it decided to feel like summer again. I was hoping for a much better finish time but I did what I could.

The coolest part is that you come through the football team’s tunnel and finish on the 50 yard line.

And if you don’t forget, you can look up and see yourself on the jumbotron as you cross the finish line. I forgot.

As you know, the girls ran with Kelly. They were awesome, and I am so proud of them! This is the farthest they have ever run.

If you’re from Ohio, you get this.

Afterward, we went out for brunch.

The girls got cinnamon rolls the size of their heads.

The medal is insanely awesome. It’s different than last year’s (this is only the second year for this race). I’m curious to see what they come up with for next year.

They had a huge problem with the shirt sizing. Apparently they ended up with youth sizes instead of adult. What’s great is that they’re mailing us the correct sizes once they come in. Although the girls were excited because they got a nice race shirt that actually fit them!

So….disclaimer: There were TONS of walkers. Hence the 6th/928 in AG. Anyway, happy enough but not thrilled with the finish time–but I’ll take it for humid and crowded.

We did it!

Anna wrote her narrative essay for English last week about her experience–I just may have to post it.

Hoping to be back soon with another race recap!

30 miles total for the week.
