Running Update

I always have such good intentions….

But things got a little busy–a couple of peak mileage weeks, kids, work, vacation (yay!). Therefore, I’m a couple of weeks behind on the blog. But since vacation this time around includes many hours in the car–which really gives me no excuse–I’m determined to catch up!

Although it’s a couple weeks ago, here’s another week of running and a couple of races!

Monday: 10 treadmill miles. What am I going to do when this season of Orange is the New Black is over?? No, really.

Tuesday: rest

Wednesday: 8 treadmill miles + a yoga class

Thursday: 6 treadmill miles

Friday: rest

Saturday morning Anna and I ran a local race, the Flamingo Run 5K benefitting hospice. It seems like whenever there are 5Ks in our town, the courses are inevitably concentrated in the same basic area–which is nice and scenic, and low-traffic, but relatively hilly. There’s just no getting around it. Somehow though I always hold out hope that overnight the course will be miraculously transformed into one that is flat. A girl can dream, right? As I have mentioned a thousand times in the past, the trifecta of heat, humidity, and hills is not my scene. But I’m all about running a race to support a good cause, so I will deal.

There was a great turnout that morning, as it was perfect timing for a tune-up race for all the high school cross country kids that showed up.

Let’s just say it did not disappoint. It was hot. It was humid. It was hilly. And it was….not so bad.

Nope, not even close to a PR today. And I know this about myself–I am just not a summer PR-achiever. Pessimistic? Perhaps. More like realistic. But….I was still happy with my effort considering the circumstances. Not to mention the fact that I thought I may have broken my toe the day before, so there was that. Actually it felt really great snuggled into my running shoe but as soon as I stopped running that was another story. (Luckily–thankfully!–this would not end up being an issue during my 10 mile race the next day.) Anyway….to the two high school cross country girls I chased the entire way, thanks ladies, for not letting this old lady give up. 6th female overall and 1st in age group. I’ll take it. And my not-so-little-anymore running partner ran a solid race. I am so loving that she is loving racing!

And I won this as a door prize:

I love a giant coffee mug and I love Justin’s nut butter even more. Anna won a basket of salon hair and nail products. Some of which I may or may not have stolen.

I ran a few more miles later to make it 6.5 for the day.

Sunday: 10 mile race–recap coming soon!–plus another 2.6 later, making it 12.62 for the day.

Back soon–for real!

43.12 miles total for the week.

  1. Congrats on a great race! Heat, humidity, and hills are definitely not the best combo but it always feels amazing when you can beat have a great run despite them!
