We are SO on!

Second week of the taper. It really hasn’t hit me yet. It’s been a busy and unfortunately rough week at work–therefore my mind has been distracted.

Monday: 4 very easy treadmill miles in 39:04

Wednesday: 5 MP miles outside in 42:28

Thursday: 4 treadmill miles in 37:02

As most everyone knows, on Tuesday MCM registrants were informed that the race was in jeopardy of being cancelled due to the governmental shutdown. Talk about a panic. I’m not going to get all political here, as I sympathize with all the families affected by this, and I understand the implications reach far beyond a marathon. BUT–I was freaking out. I had put way, WAY too much hard work into this training plan to just waste it. I wanted to cry.

And thus commenced the search for a back-up plan. There were a lot of factors to consider. Date and timing. Distance from home. Rolling the dice and trying to get into a race that would in all likelihood sell out within minutes should MCM be cancelled. Continue the taper or not. Hilliness (most were too hilly, or at least more so than the MCM course). Potential to be too hot. One race started in the US and ended in Canada, therefore requiring a passport–mine was, of course, expired. My coach actually found one–miraculously–about two hours from home and a week later: a small race with the only potential drawback being it was a packed limestone towpath. But that was going to have to be it. I was content with it. I had to be.

And then, Thursday morning I received the awesome news from my coach, who had been checking the MCM website.

So now I’ve gone from completely freaking out about NOT running 26.2 to completely freaking out about ACTUALLY running 26.2. I know! Makes total sense.

Now that that’s all settled I can go about my business of not letting my mind get the best of me.

It is so hard to believe that my oldest turned 11 on Friday. I am so proud of the sweet, amazing young lady she has become. If there is one thing I learned this week, it is how blessed we truly are.

Birthdays mean classroom treats. So by request,

I made Halloween whoopie pies from scratch. There’s applesauce in them. Doesn’t that make them a clean-eating dessert? Yeah….don’t answer that.

Saturday: Last long-ish run before MCM! Met Ryan on the trail. Another beautiful, cool fall morning. It felt really easy. 10 miles with the last 3 miles @MP in 1:29:56.

Today also happened to be my birthday! I had a super but low-key weekend spent with family. Those are always the best.

Nothing better than a little something handmade from the girls–and running clothes!

My husband loves to order from Roadrunner because a) he is a VIP member and gets a 10% discount and free warp speed shipping, and more importantly, b) they have ready made outfit combinations put together and all he has to do is click on “buy all”. Won’t catch me complaining.

Sunday: 3 recovery treadmill miles in 30:05.

Wrapped up the weekend with a trip to the pumpkin patch.

26 miles total for the week.
